Survivors

A New Play by Wendy Kout

Inspired by the Words and Lives of Rochester Holocaust Survivors
Directed by Sandi Henschel

Crafted from the actual words and experiences of ten Rochester-based Holocaust survivors, CenterStage Theatre and the Louis S. Wolk Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester commissioned this new play to put a human face on this important time in history. A cautionary tale on the risks of normalized hate, this play ensures that the voices of Rochester survivors will never be silenced.

Survivors weaves the shocking and inspirational stories of Eva Abrams, Erich Arndt, Arthur Herz, Ellen Lewinsky, Rosemarie Molser, Henry Silberstern, Helen Przysuskier,
Evie Schuerman, Kurt Weinbach and Carl Voldman.

The production team of Survivors would like to sincerely thank CHAI (Center for Holocaust Awareness and Information) and the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester, The Alliance for Jewish Theatre, Skylight Theatre (Los Angeles), Bonnie Abrams and Barbara Appelbaum.

We would like to especially thank all the survivors and their families for sharing their stories.

MARCH 30 - APRIL 14, 2019

by Paula Vogel

AREA PREMIERE - Inspired by the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s God of Vengeance, this play with music by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel explores a troupe of Jewish immigrant actors who risked their lives and careers to perform at a time when art, freedom, and truth were on trial. Universally hailed as one of Broadway’s “Must-See Plays of 2017,” Indecent is a powerful and entertaining look at Yiddish theatre’s impact on Broadway and an explosive moment in theatrical history.
