TechAge Learning Center

The TechAge Learning Center is open to all adults 45 plus, Monday through Friday. Computer classes for adults, taught by adults. Learn to use a computer in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Classes are small with a maximum of 10 students. "Ask the Pros"

On Wednesdays only from September through June, we offer "Ask the Pros" sessions where TechAge students can receive expert help with any computer issue.

You do not need to be a JCC member to participate in TechAge. All classes consist of eight two-hour lessons unless otherwise noted.


Introduction to Computers

Our most popular class for beginners. You'll learn the skills you need to get comfortable with your computer and use the tools it offers you. By the end of this class, you'll be "surfing the Internet", sharing e-mail with friends and family and using word processing and spreadsheet applications. For Windows 7/Vista users. Maximum class size is nine.

Introduction to Computers II - New

Ready to take the next step or need a refresher? This class is for you. It builds on the basic skills taught in "Introduction to Computers" to help you get even more comfortable with your computer and take better advantage of the tools it offers you. Learn more about Windows features, working with programs and files, personalizing your computer and using Internet and e-mail tools. For Windows 7/Vista users. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills.


Internet & E-mail

Take advantage of all the Internet offers. Communicate with friends and family around the world with e-mail and access the wealth of useful information available on the World-Wide-Web. This course takes you beyond the basics and shows you how to protect your privacy and keep your computer secure. Prerequisite: Basic computer and Internet skills.


Use the Google search engine to get the information you want, when you want it. Who was the 23rd president? 5th Marx brother? What's a quark? News, maps, directions, best prices? This course will show you how to get the most from Google. It's all there and more - at your fingertips. Name it, you'll find it with Google. This is a 4-lesson course. Prerequisite: Basic computer and Internet skills.

Using Microsoft Word 2007

Whether you are writing a short note, a letter to family or friends, a flyer or a book, Microsoft Word makes it easy and fun. Personalize your documents using interesting fonts, color, bolding and underlining. Mistakes? Word automatically checks your spelling and grammar. Use advanced features to change margins, create tables, lists, footnotes and insert drawings and pictures. Even create form letters & use mail merge to personalize letters and envelopes with names and addresses. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills including some experience with word processing, and a Flash Drive available from TechAge.

Using Microsoft Excel 2007

Learn how to use spreadsheets to easily create and maintain budgets, monitor investments, track checking account activity, or create Club Treasurer's reports. Excel helps you build and edit worksheets using formulas which automatically calculate your numbers so you'll never have a math error again. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills and a Flash Drive available from TechAge.

Introduction to Digital Photography

Get the most from your digital camera. In this "hands-on" class you'll learn how to use your camera's features and controls and simple techniques to take better pictures. You'll also learn to transfer photos to your computer, organize and edit them using free software, e-mail them to friends and family and upload them to the Internet for sharing and printing. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills.


Cards, Calendars, Crafts & More

Have fun exploring online sites to make projects using free templates. Printer company websites and other websites will be used in class. Enjoy finding the right project for your event or special interest. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills and the ability to access and search the internet.

Digital Photo Editing

Pictures too bright or dark? Color need adjusting? Improve your digital photos using Photoshop Elements, the most popular photo editing software package. You'll learn to crop and resize photos, remove blemishes and unwanted objects, organize your photos and much more. Prerequisite: Intermediate computer skills and some experience with digital photography.
