Register now for JCC Nursery School
Nursery School registration for the 2008 - 2009 school year is in full swing.
For further information and/or a tour, contact Sandy Sapiro at ext.273 or Rachel Rosner at ext.505.

Our children have the opportunity to use the gym, play gym, pool, dance studio, and auditorium in the main building. Children age three and up have weekly gym and swim classes. Two-and-a-half-year-olds enjoy our play gym and pool during the optional Friday Addition class. Our swim program helps children enjoy and feel comfortable in the water. Those who wish may learn swimming skills at their own pace. Children use special equipment (i.e. parachute, scooter boards) to help develop gross-motor skills during the gym classes. They often enjoy other special programs at the JCC (i.e., the senior adult choral group, intergenerational seder) and are frequently visited by special guests.

Jewish culture is consistently conveyed through weekly Shabbat activities and other Jewish holiday programs that emphasize hands-on holiday experiences. Brachot are said before eating and Jewish ethics and Hebrew language are imparted through stories, songs, and games.

Our program includes a hands-on science component and many manipulatives for both math and science. Our extensive literature collection is always growing. Children come to know the wonder of learning about themselves and the world around them through fantasy play, creative self expression, and self-motivation. Literature, music, art and social studies for all groups foster their exploration.

Our student/teacher ratio is small. All rooms have two teachers; most rooms also include an assistant teacher. Many of our teachers hold advanced degrees in education and all have been chosen for their superior abilities to work with young children. The part-day Nursery School and full-day Child Care programs are under the direction of Sandy Sapiro, who holds a Masters Degree in early childhood administration and has been part of the JCC Early Childhood Department since its inception. Additional staff include an assistant director, program coordinator, administrative secretary, and specialists in science, music, physical education, and specially trained swimming instructors.

Our Nursery School Programs...

For children 2 & 2½years old

The 2-Year-Old Program
For children who will be 2 years of age by September, we offer a two-day program on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 11 am. The class size is small and the program is a well-guided and enriched play group.

The 2-½-Year-Old Program
A two-day program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11:30 am.

The Friday Addition Class
This class is designed for two and 2½-year-olds ready for a third day of nursery school and is held from 9 to 11:30 am. The program for this day includes music, Shabbat and swim.

NOTE: All of these programs can be "attached" to our morning Toddler/Preschool sitter service. Children may be transferred from Nursery School by our staff.

For children ages 3, 4 & 5
Three-day programs are offered for both three- and four-year-olds (by September). Five-day programs are offered for children who are 4 and 5 years old and a limited number of children who have turned 3½ by September 1.

Five-day programs offer continuity for "older" pre-schoolers. The three-day programs are offered for the child who wants or needs to have some "at home time" in between nursery school days. All three and five-day programs include gym and swim, music and science specialists, and a variety of field trips.

Three-Day Programs
Our three-day classrooms present a safe world where children can develop a positive self-image, self-reliance, social awareness and interaction, imagination and resourcefulness. These classes are in session Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:15 am to 12:15 pm or 12:45-3:45 pm. The classes are grouped by age.

The Five-Day Program
Our five-day morning program is designed to accommodate multi-aged groupings from 3½ to 5 years of age. This class fosters self-esteem as children pursue emerging interests and exercise their growing abilities through a multitude of experiences.

Full day Pre-K Program
(8:30 am-3:30 pm)
Our unique Pre-K program is designed to meet the needs of children delaying entrance into kindergarten, those who may just miss the kindergarten cut-off date, and children eligible for kindergarten the following year who are ready and eager for extra time and stimulation. Children must be 4 by September 1.

K'tanim
K'tanim is a five-day program for three- and four-year-olds. The curriculum is based on Orthodox pedagogical materials and incorporates davening, barchot, rituals and Hebrew language activities in combination with appropriate developmental early childhood experiences.

Lunch Bunch
For the three- and five-day children (and parents) who want extra socialization time and activities, we offer Lunch Bunch (from 12:15 to 1 pm for 3-day youngsters and 12 to 1 pm for 5-day children.) You may choose any number of days per week for this program, but registration must be for the full year on the selected day(s). Lunch Bunch is an integrated program and is not a drop-in service.
